Serran Prayer for Vocations
O God, Who wills not the death of a sinner, but rather that he be converted and live. Grant we beseech you, through the intercession of the Blessed Mary, ever Virgin, Saint Joseph her spouse, Blesssed Junipero Serra and all the saints, an increase of laborers for your Church, fellow laborers with Christ to spend and consume themselves for souls through the same Jesus Christ Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You, In the unity of the Holy Spirit. God forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for the Perserverance of Vocations
O God, You have constituted Your only-begotten Son supreme and eternal Priest for the glory of Your majesty and the salvation of mankind: grant that those whom He has chosen ministers and dispensers of His mysteries may be found faithful in fulfilling the ministry they have received. Amen

Prayer for the Canonization of Blessed Junipero Serra

Heavenly Father, we ask you to look lovingly on the missionary journey of your faithful sevant, Blessed Junipero Serra.  His steadfast efforts in founding nine missions in California and the conversion of thousands of Native Americans have inspired the formation and work of Serra International.  This ministry in Father Serra's name is to encourage and affirm vocations to the priesthood and vowed religious life.  We pray that you bless this holy and courageous Franciscan missionary and grant him the ultimate honor of Sainthood in your heavenly kingdom.  We ask this in the name of thy Blessed Trinity and of Mary, Queen of Vocations.  Amen.

Please Pray for Priests

Dear Lord,  we pray that the Blessed Mother wrap her mantle around your priests and through her intercession strengthen them for their ministry.   We pray that Mary will guide your priests to follow her own words, “Do whatever He tells you” (John 2:5).  May your priests have the heart of St. Joseph, Mary’s most chaste spouse. May the Blessed Mother’s own pierced heart inspire them to embrace all who suffer at the foot of the cross.  May your priests be holy, filled with the fire of your love seeking nothing but your greater glory and the salvation of souls.  Amen.

July 1, Feast Day of Blessed Junipero Serra

 

Day One: Blessed Serra, we ask you to pray with us this day for Pope Benedict XVI, Bishop Richard Stika, our bishop.  As our shepherds, may they be strengthened in faith, renewed in hope and filled with love every day as they shepherd their people.

** Pray every day:

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the vocations that You have called forth in our diocese. Please continue to call Your people. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit to enable them to discern Your call. Give them strength of heart to respond generously.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place all our trust in You.

Immaculate heart of Mary, pray for us.

St. Michael the Archangel, protect us.

Blessed Serra, pray for us.

Day Two: Blessed Serra, we ask you to pray with us this day for our chaplain, Fr. Garrity, and all the priests of our diocese. May our Blessed Mother sustain them in difficulties and may their hearts be filled with the peace and joy of the presence of Jesus.

Day Three: Blessed Serra, we ask you to pray with us this day for our Transitional Deacons.  As they continues their journey toward ordination, may they be inspired by the Holy Spirit to go forth in confidence always trusting in Jesus and following wherever He leads.

Day Four: Blessed Serra, we ask you to pray with us this day for seminarian who are to be ordained to the temporary diaconate this year.  May they be empowered with the love of Jesus as he ministers in our diocese and filled with joyful anticipation of their ordination.

Day Five: Blessed Serra, we ask you to pray with us this day for all of our seminarians. May the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit be enflamed within them as they continue their studies and ministry work and may they be protected by our Mother Mary as they progress toward their ordination day.

Day Six: Blessed Serra, we ask you to pray with us this day for our permanent deacons. As they serve our diocese and our priests in so many ways may they and their spouses and families be renewed in mind, body and spirit through an outpouring of grace that flows from the heart of Jesus.

Day Seven: Blessed Serra, we ask you to pray with us this day for the religious sisters of our diocese. As brides of Christ may they fall deeper in love with their bridegroom every day and continue to be transformed by His love for them.

Day Eight: Blessed Serra, we ask you to pray with us this day for the religious brothers of our diocese. May their lives of praise and sacrifice bear much fruit in the ministries God has chosen for them and may their hearts be filled with joy as they continue to bring the light of Christ to the world.

                Day Nine: Blessed Serra, we ask you to pray with us this day for the souls of deceased priests, deacons, and religious of our diocese.  May they have eternal rest and intercede for us at the very throne of God in Heaven.

Hail Mary, full of grace;
all generations call you blessed.

Hail Mother of God; when asked by the angel
to bear the Son of the Most High,
filled with faith, you responded:
"Let it be done unto me."

Holy Mother of Jesus, at the wedding feast at Cana,
you prompted your Son to perform his first sign.

Be with us as we discern our life's work
and guide us in the way we are called to follow
in the footsteps of your Son.

Holy Mother of the Savior, at the foot of the cross
you mourned the death of your only Son.

Bless and embrace the loving parents of all priests,
deacons, brothers and sisters.

Holy Mother of the Good Shepherd,
turn your motherly care to this nation.

Intercede for us to the Lord of the harvest
to send more laborers to the harvest
in this land dedicated to your honor.

Queen of Peace, Mirror of Justice, Health of the Sick,
inspire vocations in our time.

Let the word of your Son be made flesh anew
in the lives of persons anxious to proclaim
the good news of everlasting life.
